Terms of Use
The agreement that governs your use of gravityfinder.com.
137 Finder LLC · Last updated: June 27, 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and 137 Finder LLC, doing business as gravityfinder (“gravityfinder,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), and govern your access to and use of gravityfinder.com and any related pages and features (collectively, the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
gravityfinder is a free, informational website that compiles public astronomy data into a relational explorer of the universe: confirmed exoplanets, their host stars and systems, galaxies, black holes, and notable stars, cross-linked so you can roam from one to another. Some values shown on the Service are computed by us from public parameters. The Service is provided by 137 Finder LLC.
2. Eligibility
You must be able to form a legally binding contract to use the Service. The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. By using the Service you represent that you meet these requirements.
3. Acceptable Use
You may access and use the Service for your personal, educational, informational, and lawful purposes. You agree that you will not:
- engage in automated bulk extraction, scraping, or crawling of the Service beyond what is permitted for ordinary search-engine indexing under our robots.txt;
- interfere with, disrupt, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, its servers, or its data;
- copy or redistribute our compiled database, computed values, or illustrations as a bulk dataset or competing product (see Section 4);
- present the data as an official record, or in a way that misrepresents its source or accuracy;
- remove, obscure, or alter any attribution, copyright, or proprietary notice; or
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
The underlying public datasets are freely reusable from their original sources, as described in Section 4. These restrictions apply to our compilation and presentation of that data on the Service, not to the public sources themselves.
4. Intellectual Property
gravityfinder is built on open, public astronomy data. The underlying datasets, including the NASA Exoplanet Archive, OpenNGC, the Gravitational-Wave Open Science Center (GWOSC), Wikidata, and the others credited on our Data and analysis page, remain under their own open licenses and are freely reusable from those original sources, under their respective terms. Nothing here restricts your right to obtain and use that public data from its original source. For example, OpenNGC is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0, which requires attribution and share-alike for that data.
However, our particular selection, arrangement, and compilation of that data into the gravityfinder database, our computed values, our procedurally generated illustrations and renders, our original text, and the site’s design, look, and feel, and software, are owned by 137 Finder LLC and protected by intellectual-property laws. “gravityfinder” and our logos are trademarks of 137 Finder LLC. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to view the Service for your personal, educational, and informational use.
Real photographs and certain other materials are licensed from third parties, such as ESO, ESA/Hubble, NASA, the Event Horizon Telescope, and Wikimedia Commons, under their respective licenses, and we provide attribution as required by those licenses. Those materials remain subject to their own terms.
5. Third-Party Content and Links
The Service incorporates data from third-party sources and may link to third-party websites. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party content, sources, or sites, and their inclusion does not imply endorsement.
6. Independence
gravityfinder is an independent project of 137 Finder LLC. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by NASA, ESA, ESO, the LIGO, Virgo, or KAGRA collaborations, Caltech, or any space agency, observatory, or research institution. We use their publicly released data and credit it; references to those organizations are for identification and attribution only.
7. No Warranty and Accuracy Disclaimer
THE SERVICE AND ALL DATA ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” FOR INFORMATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. While we strive for accuracy, we do not warrant that the data is accurate, complete, current, or error-free. Some values are computed estimates derived from incomplete measurements, and astronomical data is revised over time. The Service is not an official record. For any official, scientific, academic, navigational, or financial purpose, you should independently verify information against authoritative sources. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. See also our Data and analysis page.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, 137 Finder LLC, its members, and its agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Service or its data. To the extent any liability cannot be disclaimed, our total aggregate liability is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100).
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless 137 Finder LLC and its members and agents from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your misuse of the Service or your violation of these Terms.
10. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
11. Copyright Complaints
If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, please follow the process in our Copyright and Takedown Policy.
12. Changes to the Service and These Terms
We may modify or discontinue the Service, and may update these Terms, at any time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the state and federal courts located in Massachusetts will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, and you consent to venue there. Before filing any claim, you agree to first contact us at support@gravityfinder.com and attempt in good faith to resolve the matter informally.
14. Miscellaneous
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a sale or reorganization of the business. These Terms are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
